There are machines that live underground. Thousands of kilometres below our cities, they rest their weary feet on the boiling hot bedrock at the centre of the earth and manipulate our societies with a delicate touch. They have not shown themselves to human beings until now, the hand of one of these machines will emerge from the earth for just a few hours, giving us a chance to flip the status quo and take control back, subjecting the machine to our whims for once.
Hand of the Machine is a massive mechanical installation piece, it invites interactivity from viewers and encourages engagement as a group. It will take place on the lawn of the Millennium Library for the duration of Nuit Blanche, after which it will recede back into the earth where it resides.
Hand of the Machine is an Illuminate The Night project of Nuit Blanche Winnipeg funded by our Producing Partner Winnipeg Arts Council.
